Comstock
The South Hill neighborhood south of 29th Ave, between High Drive and Perry St.
Every Wednesday Jeff spotlights a different Spokane neighborhood. This guide covers Comstock: its history, its homes, and the places nearby worth knowing.
A little history
- 1888: a streetcar line ran from downtown to a car house near 37th & Grand.
- 1907: tree-lined Manito Boulevard was built.
- 1938: Comstock Park was dedicated, named for former Spokane mayor J.M. Comstock. His daughter, Josie Comstock Shadle, donated the land.

The homes
Most of Comstock was built after World War II, with a few homes dating to the early 1900s. Styles vary widely, and most homes are two stories or less.

5 things to love about Comstock
